Why you should hire a Doulatog (Doula & Photographer)
You just found out that you’re pregnant (congratulations) and you are now navigating the world of pregnancy and newborn. You’re overwhelmed by the offering available of birth preparation classes, workshops, baby gear and trying to decipher what is worth your investment and what is not worth tipping you towards the poverty line.
You always knew you wanted a Doula, but you’ve been following a couple of birth photographers on Instagram and now that you are pregnant, you catch yourself crying more often when you see those images for the first moments that you get to finally meet your little one, and you get it, why would someone want to invite a photographer to capture these moments and you want that too.
However, you’re not entirely sure if you budget will stretch this far, and If you want that extra person in the birth room, because your birth partner has been preparing since day one and has now attended more workshops than you. You’ve also just purchase the new iphone 13 pro max and how amazing are the images and videos that can produce, right?
I will have to disagree, not that the camera phones are getting pretty good nowadays, but the conditions in the birthing room are extremely unique, and birth photographers, like me, have extensively trained to adapt to the ever changing light conditions, tight spaces, unexpected twists and changes. I can anticipate the key moments and I understand the process of birth, as well as how to effectively and respectfully work with the rest of the birthing team.
I have invested in the best gear that suit these specific needs and even carry a back up with me at all times, in case of failure. And have a backup at hand in case something out of my control keeps me out of the birthing room.
I pay my taxes and insurance, making it all that much safer for you.
I’ve invested in the best software to edit the images and make sharing with your friends and family easy and fun.
I’m a proud member of the IAPBP (International Association Professional Birth Photographers) and De Geboortefotograaf.
I’ve completed certification through Birth Becomes Her which has very high standards of training and abide through their code of conduct.
I am also a Doula, with equal devotion for the role that it entails.
I have trained as a Doula through BIA Doula training, and have invested my time in continuous education in birth and how to provide best support, whether it is keeping up to date with the most current data on evidence based birth, or attending Spinning babies, pregnancy massage and rebozo workshops.
I have studied and witnessed the physiology of birth and can help you navigate the ups and downs. I know about interventions and their risks and benefits and can help you and your partner better understand them.
I do not replace your chosen birth partner, we form a team to better support you, so that when a break is required, there is always someone right beside you, and to also support the birth partner’s unique process.
As we embark in our journey, we get to know each other, I get to know how to better support you, you start feeling more and more comfortable with me, so when the birth day arrives, you won’t even notice that I am there capturing your story while providing you with the best support. There will be less people present, so less probabilities to interfere with the physiology of birth.
And if all of this has still not convinced you of how valuable a Doulatog is for your birthing team, then just reach out and maybe my personality will win you over.
